Fixed Amount:
When you have a clear understanding of your project needs and timeline, opt for a fixed amount structure. For instance, commission a blog post for $500.
• Initiate the project by paying the full fixed amount upfront.
• Alternatively, choose to send a percentage of the total amount to the Freelancer initially, with the remaining payment disbursed after you receive and approve the project deliverables. (Note that submissions are automatically approved after 120 hours if you don't review them.)
Hourly Amount:
• If you prefer flexibility and want to secure a specific number of hours for a service, consider an hourly amount structure. For example, secure 10 hours of development work for $75/hour.
• Kick off the project by paying the full fee for the maximum estimated hours. For instance, if a freelancer is booked for 10 hours at $75/hour, you would pay $750 upfront.
• If the Freelancer doesn't utilize the maximum estimated hours, any unused portion is automatically refunded to you.
Flexible, Continuous Work:
For projects with no defined end date, where flexibility is key, consider the following structures:
Fixed Amount:
For instance, if you need ongoing social media management for $2,000/month:
• Invoices can be automatically generated on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly schedule.
• Unlike one-time projects, there's no requirement for an upfront payment to initiate ongoing work.
Hourly Amount:
If you prefer an hourly arrangement, such as on-call IT support for $80/hour:
• Establish a maximum number of hours that can be billed weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
• Invoices are generated based on the Freelancer's submitted hours.
• Similar to fixed-amount projects, there's no need for an upfront payment to commence ongoing work.
Larger Projects with Defined Phases:
When dealing with multi-phase projects characterized by distinct deliverables, consider breaking down the project into parts with payments structured to initiate each phase. For instance, if you're redesigning a website:
Hourly Amount:
If you opt for an hourly arrangement, such as building a website for $3,000 for each milestone delivered:
• Initiate each phase by paying the full amount associated with that specific stage.
• We receive payment after submitting milestone deliverables, subject to your approval. (Note that submissions are automatically approved after 120 hours if you don't review them.)
